Book Author Receives
1969 Journalism Award
Mrs. Edward Holley Houston
authoress was honored Wed-
nesday February 25 by the
publishers of 20th Century
Christian and Power for Today
magazines "for excellence in
Christian journalism."
The annual award went to
Mrs. Holley for her book pub-
lished last year Person to
Person. She is the wife of Dr.
Edward G. Holley director of
libraries for the University of
Houston. s
Presentation of the award was
made at a dinner in the Windsor
Hotel hosted annually by the
Nashville Tenn. based maga-
zines. Person to Person was pub-
lished by the Sweet Publishing
Company in Austin.
The book probes into the
Importance of personal relation-
ships in every area of life
home family church friend-
ship. Mrs. Holley wrote "I have
come more and more to the
conclusion that It's almost imi
possible for a person to have a
real relationship with God un.tft
he has known a loving fulfilling
relationship with another per-
son." Material in the book had been
presented in lectures at the
University Avenue Church of
Christ in Denver Colo. at the
1967 ACC Bible Lectureship and
in various Houston area
churches.
Mrs. Holley is a magna cum
laude graduate of David Lip-
scomb College with a BA degree
in English. She also holds an MA
in English from Northwestern
University and has taught
English.
The Ferrante and Teicher
piano team will appear for the
Hardin-Siramons University art-
ist series at 8:30 pjn. March 11
in Behrens Chapel at H-SU.
Ferrante and Teicher earned
their fame with the "Theme
From the Apartment" for
United Artists. They had been
working together for 12 years at
the time. In the beginning
Ferrante and Teicher did not
plan to work together.
They met at Julliard School
of Musk where they registered
when they were six. At Julliard
they were with the same teach-
ers studying theory composi-
tion orchestration conducting
and piano ensemble.
In the beginning of course
they only did duets at one
piano. Then they began to
realize how much more could be
done with two pianos. They
received considerable encourage-
ment but when they graduated
from Julliard they discovered
that there was little work for
piano teams.
Their recording of the theme
music from the motion picture
"The Apartment" lifted them
from relative obscurity to the
first plateau of their popularity
as performing artists. Many ex-
perts told them that their record
would never sell because no one
had ever used two pianos before.
But this record brought about a
change among recording execu-
tives. "The Apartment" sold
760000 records in the first
three weeks alone.
Ferrante and Teicher have
sold more than 20 million
records and have won 11 gold
record awards.
