Austin Avenue Methodist Church
The Austin Avenue Methodist Church is one of the older congregations in Waco, having been established on December 31, 1900, at a Quarterly Conference of the Fifth Street Methodist Church. Rev. John R. Nelson was appointed to organize the new congregation which held its first service of worship on December 29, 1901, with 81 charter members. A church edifice was completed in 1902.
The church has provided leadership in religious, social, and cultural concerns throughout its history. It has been awarded two Texas Historical Markers, a Waco Historic Landmark Marker, and a United Methodist Historic Site Marker.
