Bronze sculptures find home in subdivision

Description: A newspaper clipping featuring an article on University of North Texas graduate and artist, Laurie Gowland, announcing her completion of bronze sculptures for the entrance to the Hunter's Ridge, a Denton residential subdivision. As a graduate student in fine arts, Ms. Gowland returns to Denton to lead the Hurst-Euless-Bedford section of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts.

Description: A hand-written report of collected data from the Getty Center and North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts discipline-based art education project. [Letter from Bill McCarter and Jack Davis to Russ Chapman, July 8, 1991]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Jack Davis, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Russ Chapman, Principal Lakewood Elementary. In regards Chapman being unable to attend either of the principal's sessions during the 1991 Summer Institute and that the institute was a real success due to the great measure of the contributions of the classroom teachers and art specialists, named as such, Marilyn Duncan, Laurie Bargsley and Pam Stephens. McCarter and Davis end the letter that each school teacher are to complete a plan for the DBAE implementation into their classrooms and that Chapman is to review the plan with his staff.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Cason, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Janice Wiggins, Dallas ISD. Iin regards of Dallas' participation in the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. McCarter and Cason write that after reviewing their budget they have found that they will be able to fund one team from DISD at 100% for the first year at the Institute, yet after one year they are unsure that they'll be able to get more funding from the Getty Center to allow Dallas as a consortium. Included at the end of the letter is a mock-up of what Dallas will be entitled to during their Summer institute Services.

[Letter from Bill McCarter to Janice Wiggins, May 8, 1992]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Janice Wiggins, Dallas ISD. McCarter mentions that Wiggins appears to have excessive demands by the district, and he would like to discuss options of relieving Wiggins of some of her responsibilities. McCarter asks Wiggins if she could give them any names of appropriate individuals who would help with some of the pressure. McCarter then mentions an agreement between Dr. Marvin Edwards and the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, stating that Edwards could provide six art teachers who will devote time towards the DBAE program, and ask Wiggins if Edwards or other officials could be reminded of the commitment and honor it. If the Institute is not able to document the in-kind contribution by the district, NTIEVA is in trouble with both the Getty and the Marcus Foundation. McCarter ends the letter saying he'll call in the next few days to discuss the best course of action. Copied on the letter is Jack Davis.

Thompson asks that Davis keep her informed of anything future involvement with guests after visiting the UNT Campus and has been in touch with Berryman, who has begun putting things together for his Chairman. Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis, Bill McCarter and Nancy Reynolds, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Dr. Dean Anthony, Denton ISD. Asking if he recalls the lasting Advisory Committee meeting they had in which they set two priority goals. Their first goal to seek continued support for their Portfolio project and their second, to generate potential names for additional committee members. In the letter Davis, McCarter and Reynolds are pleased to report that the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation has agreed to fully fund the portfolio project and it will be underway once their Summer Institute project is over. In the letter, they ask Anthony if he has any recommendations for committee members and to contact them through note of phone call. Additionally in the letter are details about the Institute's schedule for the summer, and a formal invitations for Anthony to join any them if his schedules allows.
