Grants of $625,000 and $150,000 Benefit Institute For Educators On The Visual Arts

Description: A document with written details about the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts program and the grant money received for their cause. On 1989 the Getty Center awarded a grant of $625,000 to the newly formed North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, with the instruction that the grant had to be matched over a five-year period. Following that award, in 1990 the Amon Carter Foundation matched a major portion of the Getty grant with a gift of $150,000 to be paid out over three years. As part of the match, the UNT foundation has contributed $15,250 and the Crystelle Waggoner Trust has given $5000 towards their match goal.

Professional Development Center Concept Paper

Description: A proposal, written by Richard L. Simms, Interim Dean at the College of Education, University of North Texas. The proposal states that a Professional Development Center (PDC) be established in the Dallas Independent School District, and that the center will be a collaborative effort among DISD, University of North Texas, Texas Center for Education Technology, Project Bluebonnet, Educational Service Centers and representatives of the private sector. The centers' priority will be to establish schools to provide exemplary educational experience. Included in the proposal are the missions statement for the PDC, implementation strategies, research and so forth.

In the beginning of October 1991 about two-hundred and fifty Texas school districts and Regional Education Service Centers will receive state funded TVROs, Television Receive Only satellite equipment. Texas schools want to enable the use of technology to access the satellite-based education services available and becoming available. We can receive satellite programs via a downlink on top of Chilton, provides the Nebraska are using a frequency we can get (Sharon said that we can get most of them). If we reserve the space way -- -- -- -- --, we can reserve one or both classrooms that[they] are adjoining, I think, seating 45 – 90 people, and have access to audio communication with Nebraska via an 900 telephone located in the room. Two TVs are in each room for viewing. We -- -- able to tape the program, but that will depend on the ---. Sharon explained that the satellite set up in media library is just for receiving. The only production capabilities are with TAGAR ---. She wasn’t sure what the possibilities are there.
