Hockley County Area Newspaper Collection
The Levelland & Hockley County News-Press traces its roots back to 1925 and C.B. McCormick, who founded the Hockley County Herald. The newspaper went through several ownership changes through the years. The newspaper became a daily on Aug. 31, 1952, and changed its name to Levelland Daily Sun-News. Hockley County Publishing Co. Inc., a part of Roberts Publishing Company, purchased the newspaper in January 1978. Stephen Henry was named publisher. The newspaper was changed back to a twice-weekly and daily was dropped from the name. On April 1, 1979, the owners purchased the Hockley County Free-Press, which ceased to exist, along with the Sun-News, and the newspaper name was changed to Levelland & Hockley County News-Press. In October 1993 Stephen and Pat Henry, through their holding company, Stephen & Pat Enterprises Inc., purchased Hockley County Publishing Co. Inc. Stephen and Pat Henry are the co-publishers of the newspaper.
