Austin Country Club [exterior]

Watson-Lewish [furnished dining room]

Description: Photograph of a dining room furnished by Watson-Lewis Home Furnishings. Through a sliding slatted doors, a dining room table and four chairs are visible in the center of the room. A crystal chandelier hangs above the table. On the left near the far side of the room is a sideboard with silver candlesticks and dinnerware. Above the sideboard hangs a gilded mirror. A fifth dining chair sits in against the right-hand wall. The curtains are drawn against the sliding glass doors at the rear of the room.

[Construction at Holy Cross Hospital]

Description: Photograph of expansion construction on the grounds of Holy Cross Hospital. The grounds have been broken and cleared, though construction has not yet begun on the structure to appear at this location. A couple of cars are at the construction site. A man with a wheelbarrow and two other men appear near the hospital buildings.

[Two Men at early computers]

Description: Photograph of two men reading the printouts of an early dot-matrix printer. Reams of paper sit on a shelf underneath the printer and feeds into the machine from below. The printout feeds directly into a box that sits on the floor behind the printer. One man sits in front of the machine and the other looks over the printout from behind. In the rear of the image are reel-to-reel cabinets. On the desk at the front is an early IBM switchboard. Florescent lights are overhead, and exposed vents cool the room.

Early computers and office

Description: Photograph of two men in an early computing office. Two men observe a printer readout. One man sits in front of the machine, one stands behind the machine and leans over to read. The paper feeds from a shelf under the printer, through the machine, and into a box on the floor behind the machine. Reel-to-reel cabinets sit behind the men on the right, and a large IBM switchboard sits on a desk to the left. Exposed overhead ducts and vents are cooling the room.

[Batman premiere at Paramount Theater]

Description: Photograph of the premiere of the movie Batman at the Paramount Theater in Austin. A large crowd gathers to see Adam West and Burt Ward live and in person on stage in front of the theater. The crowd extends down the sidewalks on both sides of the theater. On a balcony on the right, a group of people hold a "Welcome Batman" sign. Cars drive by on the street below.

[Butler's Shoes (interior)]

Description: Photograph of the interior sales floor of Butler's Shoes at 712 Congress Avenue. Two rows of chairs are arranged back to back and divide the shoe store into two halves. They face the walls of the store, which contain boxes of shoes. There are two displays: one of women's shoes and handbags on the right, and one of men's shoes on the back wall of the store. There are no people in the shoe store.

Simmons Motor Company [garage]

Description: Photograph of the mechanics work area of the Simmons Motor Company garage. A myriad of mechanics tools and machines line the walls of the garage, but the floor is shiny and free of clutter. Signs hang above the work space reading "Austin's Largest Independent New Car Dealer / authorized to sell all makes" and "Interference makes a mechanic's work less efficient."

Anderson High School [building exterior and students]

Anderson High School [basketball team]

Description: Photograph of the 1956 Anderson High School basketball team. The boys are lined up in one line according to height, facing left. They wear shiny warm-up track suits, which have numbers embroidered on the shoulders. Every other boy holds a basketball under his arm against his left hip. The photo was taken on the basketball court, under one of the baskets.

[Adams Extract display]

Description: Photograph of a D.G. Benjamin Advertising campaign for Adams Extract displayed at a local retailer. A grocer in a white shirt and apron and bow-tie holds up a box of Adams Best, priced fifteen cents. Adams Pure Almond and Pure Lemon extracts retail for twenty-nine cents. Adams Extract is a top-shelf item in the spice aisle above McCormick and Colman's spices and extracts.
