Rusk County Area Newspapers
The Henderson News has served as the Rusk County newspaper of record since 1931. Rusk County was formed out of Nacogdoches County in 1843. Henderson, the county seat of Rusk, is known for two annual events: the syrup festival, held in celebration of the east Texas tradition of syrup-making, as well as the East Texas Sacred Harp Convention, which began in 1868 and has been hosted across the east Texas counties of Gregg, Harrison, Panola, Upshur, and Smith, before settling in Henderson, as Rusk's county seat.
