Description: Patent for a new and improved baling press. Burglar Alarm.

Description: Patent for a new and improved burglar alarm. This design "consists in a wire attached to the anchor or escapement-lever of a clock-work for ringing or sounding an alarm bell, which wire has a hook at its outer end, which is passed into a loop, ring, or hook at the end of a wire connected with the key-bolt or knob-bolt of a lock, or with a wire leading to places a considerable difference from the alarm" (lines 11-18).

Car-Brake.

Description: Patent for an improvement "in the application of power to car brakes, whereby the slack is quickly and automatically absorbed, and a powerful leverage is secured, and a perfect equalization of the leverage at each end of the car is obtained, and the convenient and safe adjustment of the brakes in regard to the wheels is effected, and any particular alignment of the brake cylinder in regard to the car body is avoided as the cylinder in regard to the car body is avoided as the cylinder may be placed across the car body or at any angle desired to secure convenience of application" (lines 8-20).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "is to provide a cheap, durable, and simple car-coupling, which shall be automatic and positive in its action, and which uses the ordinary link and takes the draft in the same way as the common pin, and which will also fit any car, and will not get out of order from being battered. It consists, mainly, in the peculiar construction of a coupling device, in combination with a spring for holding it to the open or closed position, and co-operating with the same for automatic action" (lines 11-22).

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists "[i]n a car-coupling, the combination of a recessed draw-head having abutments . . . and a transverse ridge, of a link adapted to rock on said ridge, a pivoted coupling-hook carrying a diagonally-projecting pin near its forward end, and a spiral spring arranged diagonally above the coupling-hook and surrounding said pin" (lines 93-100).

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the draw-head, the coupling-hook supported therein and having a limited longitudinal movement, the front edge of said hook being formed with inclined faces . . . and a vertical face arranged to engage proper faces in the draw-head, the forward movement of said hook being limited by [the] inclined faces . . . and vertical face, and its backward movement of bolt or stud and its upward movement by engagement of [one] surface with [another] surface" (lines 93-103).

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "a draw-head and a swinging coupling-hook pivoted therein, of the rock-shaft having the crank-arm provided with the grooved head, the chain arranged in said groove and connected with the hook, the ratchet-disk on the shaft, and the pawl for engaging the ratchet-disk" (lines 76-82).
