Car-Coupling.

Description: Patent for a vertical hook car coupling that also couple air-brakes. In the invention "the drawheads are provided with interlocking tongues to prevent the disconnection of the drawheads by vertical movement; the interlocking faces of the drawheads are provided with sockets to receive a plug for completing the air passage for the train pipes; the drawheads are provided with means for receiving the ordinary hose-coupling on cars not provided with [the] drawhead, and finally other features of [the] invention are the means for securing the drawhead to the car and for uncoupling" (lines 14-25).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, in a coupling for air-brakes, of the movable arm having the recess or socket, and the pivoted arm having the shoulder or offset adapted to fit the recess and provided with the [other] arm to direct the said shoulder or offset to the said recess when the coupling-arms come together, the said shoulder and recess forming the terminals of the air-pipes at the ends of the cars" (lines 92-100).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists "of a draw-head, a depending hook pivotally mounted therein, a transverse pin arranged on the bottom of the mouth of the draw-head and provided intermediate its ends with a notch to permit the passage of the lower end of the hook, a spring for holding the notch away from the hook, and means for sliding the pin to bring the notch opposite the hook" (lines 83-91).

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design is of a car-coupling with a bumper having recesses and slots, "having [a] lip and transverse inner wall, the hook pivoted therein, the bumper, the stirrup suspended beneath the bumper, vertical rods or connections, levers pivoted in suitable bearings on the car-roof, locking-plate, and the [additional] levers" (lines 1-6).

Car-Coupling.

Description: Patent for a simple, practical, and reliable car-coupling with a side latch. It is "adapted for automatic connection in pairs, when two cars having the improvements are brought together on the same track, which will be capable of a ready release from the side of either coupled car, and also that will be adapted by its peculiar formation to receive support from one part of the improvements, when a coupled drawhead is partly detached from its connections to the car, and which if not so sustained might fall on the track, derail the car having the disabled coupling, and occasion the wreckage of said car and others of a train" (lines 14-27).
