Skidmore had eight stores, three saloons, two drug stores, three garages, three churches, a lumber yard, bakery shop, two gins, a newspaper, and the First State Bank of Skidmore (1907-1937). McClanahan operated a general merchandise store in the 1860's. He was one of the pioneer settlers in Beeville.
