Calhoun County Public Library
The Calhoun County Library System serves over 20,000 citizens of Calhoun County, located in South Texas. The library system consists of the Calhoun County Public Library, located in the city of Port Lavaca, and three branch libraries located in Seadrift, Point Comfort, and Port O’Connor. The library that all the citizens of Calhoun County enjoy today as a county-provided public service was started in 1940 by the Port Lavaca Women’s Study Club. Beginning with just a few volumes, the library has grown to an impressive collection of thousands of books, magazines, and audio and video tapes. It was also destined to wander from place to place for over twenty years before finding its current home in 1991.
