Denton Fire Department

Description: Exterior view of the Denton Fire Department on West Oak Street. There are a number of unidentified men standing in front of fire station along with two horse-drawn buggies. On June 3, 1879 members of the Denton Joint Stock Company entered into an agreement to have the red brick building erected by one of the partners, a Mr.Luinis V. (L.V.) Brown. According to an article that appeared in the Denton Record-Chronicle, on March 2, 1940, the building was razed by the Works Progress Administration in 1940; materials from the building were used in erecting a municipal storeroom on the city's lot just west of the municipal building. Description: A large group of unidentified people are at the Denton County Jail located on Elm Street awaiting the hanging of J. Q. A. Crews. Crews was the last person to be hanged in Denton County. He was hanged for the murder of the Murrell family in Cooke County.
