East Texas Genealogical Society
Mission
The Society's mission builds upon a common desire to bring people together who have a connection to Henderson, Anderson, Smith, Gregg, Rusk, and Panola counties. They do so through the collection and preservation of historical documents and resources.
They offer the First Families of East Texas certificate program, which aims to collect information on pioneer families that settled in East Texas. For descendants of Anderson, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith counties, this includes families who settled before 1850; for Gregg County, this includes families who settled before 1880. Through this certification, descendants of early East Texans can solidify their link with the past and help document their legacy for future generations.
