One exhibit, sponsored jointly by the Abilene Museum of Fine Arts and the United States Marine Corps, was entitled "Combat Art" by Sgt. Sherman Loudermilk. This book contains clippings and postcards about Camp Barkeley, the World War II training camp established outside of Abilene, and the USO activities on Second Street.

The motto of the Texas Art Division of the Federation is "Give Art a Chance." Each of the local Abilene universities - Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University, and Abilene Christian University - had events to highlight American Art week.

The focus is on local art events during American Art Week, but also included are activities of federated and non-federated clubs statewide.

[Art Forum Scrapbook, 1936-1956]

Description: Scrapbook containing records relating to the Frances B. Fisk Student Art Loan Fund and the Penny Art Fund. The Penny Art Fund was a fundraiser for art started by the General Federation of Women's Clubs in 1930 and adopted by Texas in 1933. Each club member donated one penny, which the Federation used to buy original art that was to be given to state clubs as prizes for outstanding work in promotion of art. The Fiske Student Loan Fund was a program sponsored by the Sixth District of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs (including Abilene) and contributions were initially used to sponsor students from West Texas to the Art Institute of Chicago.
