Adobe House at El Boracho Ranch

Description: Photograph of an adobe house in 1910 located and surrounded by a wooden fence on the El Boracho Ranch. A ladder leans against the structure. The owner of the ranch was Lino Baeza. He raised goats and cows and horses. His fields were watered by the nearby creek. He grew corn, wheat, beans, peas, watermelons, sweet potatoes, peanuts, sugar cane, and pumpkins which were all watered by the creek.

[After the deer hunt]

Description: In this photograph, there are two trees with at least three dead dear hanging upside-down from the branches. Two of the deer have been split open and an older man in the center of the photograph is cutting the third. Another man, dressed casually, is watching him work. To the far right, there is a covered buggy or wagon that is unhitched and parked. Behind the men, there is a white spotted dog lying on the ground and a white building, presumably a house. In the background there appear to be mountains. A handwritten note on the back of the photograph says "Geo Gleim & Nick Mansfelder hunting on Joe Espy Ranch north of Ft. Davis, Texas."

Alice Bishop

Description: This photograph shows a young woman sitting in a chair. She is wearing a flowered dress and glasses and has her hair pulled back. Behind her, there is a wall that appears to be made of brick that is partially covered in ivy and has a door to the right. The chair appears to be on a path bordering a bed of flowers and other plants. Some parts of the photograph are obscured by white light. A handwritten note on the back of the photograph says "Alice Bishop." There is a printed border around the photograph.

[American and Texas flags]

Description: Photograph of a flagpole, viewed from the ground looking up with an American flag at the top and a Texas state flag below. A cloudy sky is visible above the pole. The image accompanied the conclusion of a written speech, with the caption: "To those who would protest the American life of challenge and accomplishment, I would remind them, our land has never been easy. [...] The land is rich, not only in landscape, but also in the heritage of those who have tried to tame it. This is My Land, My Heritage, My Hope" (p. 14)
