Adding-Machine.

Description: Patent for an adding-machine meant to "add fixed amounts of money received or to calculate the number of days a laborer has worked or the number of fractions of days" (lines 14-17). Mounted keys have mechanisms that rotate a ratchet wheel or disk. "Secured to the shaft upon which this ratchet wheel or disk is mounted is a rate-indicator, consisting of a disk divided off into radial sections, and also divided by lines running parallel to the circumference of said disk, dividing the same up into sections, which indicate money advanced on pay-roll, addition column, total amount at a fixed rate, and the number of days worked by any workman" (lines 25-34).

Adjustable Rack for Railway-Cars.

Description: Patent for improvements on racks in railway-cars including more storage for smaller items, an adjustable rack for children or elderly persons to be able to reach without needing to stand on the car seat, a titled hinge that allows a rack to be pulled for ward and pushed back, and other improvements.

Andiron.

Description: Patent for a simple and inexpensive andiron that can easily be moved and holds the logs in place. "The invention consists of an andiron having two dogs or members connected together and a fender removably connected to the front of said dogs and extending over the intervening space or opening" (lines 9-14).

Description: Patent for "a new and improved angle-cock so constructed that the plug cannot be turned by an unauthorized person without the knowledge of the engineer in charge of the train." (Lines 8-12) Includes instructions and illustrations.

Description: Patent for an improvement in animal shears to "simplify and improve the construction of animal-shears, and render their operation more positive and reliable" (lines 11-13).

Animal-Stock.

Description: Patent for an improved animal-stock that holds animals during branding, dehorning, castrating, &c. It looks like an open-topped cage where the operator puts the animal, and the animal cannot move. The invention is on a platform and can tip to one side and a chain is tied from the top of the machine to the bottom of the frame.

Animal Trap.

Description: Patent for a new and improved animal trap. This design consists in "the combination of the base-board having the opposite recesses and the transverse shaft, the yoke having the spring-coils mounted on the projecting ends of the shaft in said recesses, the standard having the holding-rod, the trigger, and the guards or prongs secured in the base-board" (lines 20-26).

Description: Patent for an improved apparatus for burning refuse and consists of a roasting chamber, a garbage grate, grates that slope and carry the product away after combustion, flues that open above the grates, and the wall partly closes on one end to let the products away after combustion.

Apparatus for Cooking Cotton-Seed Meal.

Description: Patent for an apparatus for cooking cotton-seed meal meant to get the maximum amount of oil for the meal used and puts moisture into dry meal and evaporates excess moisture in meal. Meal is continuously supplied through the machine and water-bath. The steam does not burn or harm the meal.

Apparatus for Oiling Railway-Tracks.

Description: Patent for improvements in mechanism for “applying oil to curves and switches of street railway tracks” (lines 6-7) by using an “oil-tank [that] is arranged in the upper position of the hood or shield over the car-wheel. The valve is in the bottom of the oil-space and may be controlled by a lever arranged to turn or lift in the valve, and under the valve is arranged the oiling-wheel, which runs lightly on the track or face of the car-wheel and applied the oil." Attachment for Locomotives.

Description: Patent for a safety attachment for locomotives that is simple and prevents unwelcome people from getting into a position to take control of the train. It consists of steam pipes with open jets connected with the boiler that go around the entrances of the cab, and the train engineer can turn a valve and make hot steam project across the entrances.

Description: Patent for "an attachment that can be used on pianos or organs, whereby the manipulation of the keys is greatly facilitated and playing upon the instrument greatly simplified, and the attachment is especially designed for those who do not to any great extent understand music or beginners who find it difficult to make the several chords in any particular key, the device being capable of ready attachment to the keyboard of any piano or organ and removed when not required for use" (lines 27-37).

Automatic Drop-Lid for Bins or Boxes.

Description: Patent for "boxes or bins for store counters and shelves; and it has for its object to provide certain improvements in the lid devices for boxes or bins, so as to avoid the many objections to hinged lids, which interfere with free access to the interior of the box or bin when the same is used under the counter or on shelves" (lines 8-15).

Automatic Railway-Gate.

Description: Patent for an automatic railway-gate or cattle-guard for use "at crossings, the entrances to tunnels, bridges or trestles, or at other places where it is desirable to guard the tracks" (lines 11-13). The invention is a simple and effective way for closing gates, can be operated from a distance, and is controlled by the wheels of passing trains.

Description: Patent for an axle-skein. Its purpose is "to improve the construction of axle-skeins, to increase their strength and durability, and to decrease the wear of the same at the bottom thereof" (lines 10-14).

Bale or Bundle Wiring Tool.

Description: Patent for a tool that tightly twists wire around a bale in a bale press. It works quickly and works better than other wiring tools. "This tool is so constructed that two or more wires can be grasped at two different times independent of each with one movement of the hand, not loosening the grip on the first wire while the second wire is grasped and cut off" (lines 35-40).
