Description: Patent for a new and improved anal speculum. This design is "to so construct the several parts that there will be no rough or raised edges to interfere with its insertion in the anal passage; secondly, to so construct [the] improved speculum that it may be readily used as a bi-valve or dilator; thirdly, to form a locking-joint on the meeting edges of the shells forming the speculum, whereby the sections are prevented from overlapping each other to avoid pinching or injury to the walls of the anal passage while the instrument is being inserted; fourthly, to provide a plug for [the] improved speculum" (lines 17-29).

Description: Patent for a new and improved clasp. This design "compris[es] a base and a reversely bent or inclined retaining or clamping arm formed of a single continuous wire with an eye at one end thereof and a bend or enlargement at the other end thereof, the frame or base being substantially rectangular, and the upward bent arm extending through the eye at one end of the base and having the bend or enlargement at the other end arranged near or against the end bar at the opposite end of the frame" (lines 66-76).

Description: Patent for an animal-poke that is "placed over the animal's neck and provided with spurs, whereby the animal is pricked when he attempts to pass a fence or other barrier" (lines 9-12). This invention doesn't prick the animal while it is grazing and is more comfortable to wear than similar animal-pokes.

Description: Patent for animal-poke that prevents them from jumping or forcing their way through fences. It consists of a yoke with its ends pointing upward, a brow band, rods that connect the brow band and the ends of the yoke, and bulges at the ends of the rods.

Description: Patent for a new and improved animal poke. This design "is to construct a device which may be secured to horses, cattle, and other animals, and which will effectually prevent fence-jumping, while at the same time allow the animal free use of [its] head and limbs, doing away with any tendency to cramp the wearer" (lines 17-23). It consists, "with bar and a means for suspending it beneath the animal's body and the bar, which is secured at its outer end to the animal's head, of a hinge to the opposite side of which the adjacent ends of the said bars are pivoted" (lines 78-83).

Description: Patent for "a combined animal poke and halter of simple, inexpensive, and efficient construction whereby stock to which the device is applied are prevented from forcing through or throwing their weight against barbed and other wire fences, and also whereby a halter strap or chain may be readily applied thereto to provide for securing the stock in their stalls when stabled." Description: Patent for new and improved animal shears. This design consists in "mechanism for imparting a combined reciprocating and edgewise play to the cutting knife or knives in order to cause the teeth of said knife or knives to follow or describe a curved or oval path, and thus insure greater efficiency of operation; to provide for the proper lateral contact of the knives in order to insure their proper action and to regulate the pressure or force with which one knife bears on the other; [and] to provide a peculiar form of cutter-teeth which shall be automatic or self-cleaning" (lines 19-30).

Description: Patent for an improved animal-stock that holds animals during branding, dehorning, castrating, &c. It looks like an open-topped cage where the operator puts the animal, and the animal cannot move. The invention is on a platform and can tip to one side and a chain is tied from the top of the machine to the bottom of the frame.

Description: Patent for improvements in animal-traps that would be capable of catching two animals; to set the trap, bait is placed upon the hooked ends of the bait-hooks, the jaws are elevated and retained in a position by the link-catches, which have the lower hooked ends engaging the trigger, which has its free end engaging the eye at the inner end of the bait hooks, thus setting the trap, (lines 66-73) ready to catch animals. Illustration is included.
