Apparatus for Making Cotton-Bales.

Description: Patent for improvement in apparatus for making cotton-bales from continuous sheets or bats by “employing only a single press and which permits the ginning and bat-forming devices to be operated continuously which accumulated the cotton in light and fleecy condition during the covering and removal of the bales, which feeds the cotton from the accumulator to the baling apparatus whenever this is desired.” (Lines 68-75) Illustration is included.

Apparatus for Making Soap.

Description: Patent for a new and improved soap-making machine. This design "consist[s] of grease and soda tanks, the latter tank having a diaphragm . . . a register-tank, pipes leading from said grease and soda tanks to said register-tank, a pivoted converter, a rotary shaft in said converter and blades, a shaft journaled in uprights attached to said converter and provided with a crank and a bevel wheel, the latter gearing with a bevel-wheel on said rotary shaft in the converter, and removable furnaces for said grease tank and converter" (lines 21-32).

Apparatus for Oiling Railway-Tracks.

Description: Patent for improvements in mechanism for “applying oil to curves and switches of street railway tracks” (lines 6-7) by using an “oil-tank [that] is arranged in the upper position of the hood or shield over the car-wheel. The valve is in the bottom of the oil-space and may be controlled by a lever arranged to turn or lift in the valve, and under the valve is arranged the oiling-wheel, which runs lightly on the track or face of the car-wheel and applied the oil." Apparatus for Protecting Electrical Circuits.

Description: Patent for an apparatus for protecting electrical circuits, and is an improvement on a previous patent (No. 537,932) issued to the inventor. This patent consists of "an electrical circuit, an alarm or indicator, a continuously-operating signal-transmitter at the protected structure operating to affect or influence the alarm or indicator, and a second or duplicate continuously-operating signal-transmitter located at the watchman's station, operating in unison with the first-named signal-transmitter to affect the alarm or indicator equally and oppositely as regards the first-named transmitter, whereby a signal is sounded or an alarm given only when the two transmitters are out of unison or when one is changed, varied, or interfered with in an unauthorized manner" (lines 72-86).

Apparatus for Raising and Lowering Wagon Bodies.

Description: Patent for a new and improved wagon jack. This design consists "[i]n a wagon body raiser, the combination of vertical supports, a lever pivotally supported therefrom between its ends and having a roller in one end, a shaft adapted to be secured to one end of the body, a cord having one end connected with the same end of the body as the shaft and passing over the roller and its opposite end attached to the shaft, and a cord attached to the opposite end of the body and to the adjacent end of the lever" (lines 69-78).

Description: Patent for a new and improved file re-cutter. Apparatus for Removing Cores from Cylindrical Cotton-Bales.

Description: Patent for a "means for removing screw-threaded cores from cylindrical cotton-bales" (lines 12-14). It is made up of a wheeled-truck that is holding the bale, an apparatus that grips the end of the core, a way to revolve the grip, a driven shaft, and a universal joint that connects the shaft with the end of the core.

Apparatus for Retailing Shot.

Description: Patent for a new and improved round dispenser. This design "consists in a receptacle or multiple bin the several compartments of which are provided with valves controlling exit-openings, whereby any desired quantity of shot, descending by gravity from the appropriate compartment, may be directed into the scale-pan of a scale without the necessity of lifting the receptacle or bin or any part of its contents" (lines 35-43).

Apparatus for Scouring Water-Ways.

Description: Patent for an improved apparatus for scouring water-ways by using water-discharge pipes and air-discharge pipes arranged at each side of the vessel. When “vessel is slowly moved forward while the water and air forcing pumps are working,..... direct force of the water-jets and air-jets will agitate and scatter and lift the dislodged particles and float them much higher and longer than would be the case were the water-jet pipes alone used.” (Lines 63-75) Illustration is included.
