Description: Patent for a new and improved cotton press. This design "consists of a horizontal press with reciprocating follower, worked by power, the press being arranged to receive the cotton from a chute descending from the floor above the press, the said press and the driving mechanism being constructed and arranged . . . specifically" (lines 7-13).

Cotton-Baling Apparatus

Description: Patent for a cotton baling machine in which "the condensing and bat-forming devices will condense and press the lint-cotton so close that the spring of the cotton is broken, thereby avoiding the necessity of providing additional compressing-rollers intermediate the condenser and the press-box. A further object of my invention is to arrange a condenser in such a manner as to save room in the gin-house and to provide means for carrying off the dust and air made by the gin and condenser to the outside of the building" (lines 12-24).

Description: Patent for a new and improved hypodermic syringe. Description: Patent for an improvement "in the application of power to car brakes, whereby the slack is quickly and automatically absorbed, and a powerful leverage is secured, and a perfect equalization of the leverage at each end of the car is obtained, and the convenient and safe adjustment of the brakes in regard to the wheels is effected, and any particular alignment of the brake cylinder in regard to the car body is avoided as the cylinder in regard to the car body is avoided as the cylinder may be placed across the car body or at any angle desired to secure convenience of application" (lines 8-20).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the draw-head, the coupling-hook supported therein and having a limited longitudinal movement, the front edge of said hook being formed with inclined faces . . . and a vertical face arranged to engage proper faces in the draw-head, the forward movement of said hook being limited by [the] inclined faces . . . and vertical face, and its backward movement of bolt or stud and its upward movement by engagement of [one] surface with [another] surface" (lines 93-103).

Car Coupling.

Description: Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "is to provide a cheap, durable, and simple car-coupling, which shall be automatic and positive in its action, and which uses the ordinary link and takes the draft in the same way as the common pin, and which will also fit any car, and will not get out of order from being battered. It consists, mainly, in the peculiar construction of a coupling device, in combination with a spring for holding it to the open or closed position, and co-operating with the same for automatic action" (lines 11-22).
