Machinery For Pressing Cotton.

Process of Ginning Cotton.

Description: Patent for a process of ginning cotton that is "based upon the principle of a gradual or successive ginning of the seed, somewhat analogous to the gradual reduction process of grinding wheat or other grain" (lines 28-61). This process improves ginning by over thirty-three percent.

Saw-Gin.

Description: Patent for improvements in cotton-gins by having two compartments, one above the other. “The upper roll-box being especially adapted to raw cotton and the lower one to half-ginned cotton as the lint and seeds are only partially separated in one roll-box and are then delivered into another, where the operation is completed.” (Lines 24-29) This operation used less time to separate the seed and lint. Shutter Fastener.

Description: Patent for a new and improved blind fastening. This design "relates to an improvement in fastenings for outside blinds, shutters, or the like, and the purpose of [the] device is to provide a fastening that cannot be unlocked from the outside, even though slats be cut from the blinds or shutters to which the fastening is applied and two hands or arms are thrust through within reach of the said fastening. [The] fastening has two catching-latches, one locking and holding latch, and one bolt, all to be operated simultaneously when the blind is closed against the sill, [so] said blind may be released" (lines 12-24).

Shutter Fastener.

Description: Patent for a new and improved shutter fastener. This design "has for its object the production of a simple and efficient device, and one that can be conveniently operated from the inside of the blind, but not readily tampered with or opened from the outside without removing some of the slats of the blind. . . . one part—a bolt—is carried by the blind, and the other part—a catch—is secured to the windowsill and locks the bolt, so as to unfasten the blind both hands are required—one hand to operate the catch, the other hand to operate the bolt" (lines 16-30).

Apparatus for Handling Seed-Cotton.

Description: Patent for an improved cotton elevator, separator, and distributor that is meant to move cotton from a wagon or storage, remove dirt, and deliver it to a gin. The "improved apparatus comprises a pneumatic cotton-conveying tube by which the cotton is lifted or carried to the distributor, a separator for removing the cotton from the air current, and a distributor comprising a trunk for receiving the cotton from the separator extending over the two gin feeders, having openings delivering into the feeders, and an endless chain conveyer moving in said trunk, causing the cotton to travel along therein and drop out therefrom through the delivery openings into the feeders" (lines 16-27).

Napkin Ring and Holder.

Description: Patent for a new and improved napkin ring and holder. This design is "to receive the napkin after it is folded, or to be used as a device for sustaining the napkin at the neck of the user when at the table. It consists in a yoke-shaped piece of metal having a hinged section for connecting the two ends, and serving as a ring, in combination with a clasp for holding the napkin . . . at the throat" (lines 17-25).
