About the Library
The Eugene McDermott Library's Special Collections and Archives Division at the University of Texas at Dallas presents a selection of The History of Aviation Collection. The Collection features several collections related to different aspects of Aviation: The James H. Doolittle Collection contains the post war papers and memorabilia of the famed aviator, including the Congressional Medal of Honor he received for leading a 1942 air raid on Tokyo; The Civil Air Transport/Air America Collection relates the history of several airlines operated by the Central Intelligence Agency in the Far East during the Cold War period; The Vice Admiral Charles E. Rosendahl Collection illuminates the history of lighter-that air aircraft including the Hindenburg and the United States Navy's operation of airships.
Contributions
The George H. Williams World War I Library features an extensive collection of photographs and documents on World War I aviation that are especially focused on the Central Powers (Germany and its allies); The Twirlybirds archive collects material on the early days of helicopter aviation; The Chance Vought Archive includes corporate records documenting the long tenure of a Texas based aircraft manufacturer; Finally the General Aviation Collection focuses on other areas of aviation history, with a special emphasis on aviation's impact on Texas.
