Front Exterior View of the Emily Fowler Public Library

Description: Front exterior view of the north side of Emily Fowler Public Library which is also the main branch of the Denton Public Library. This photo represent the 1968 installment of the library that extended the building from west to east and made it 11,000 square feet, which was four times the size of what it originally was. The addition was designed by architect, O'Neil Ford. The front entrance to the building was moved from east-facing to north-facing. The renovation cost the City $246,000.

Description: Portrait of Lady Bird Johnson. Inscribed on the mat board beneath the image: "For the people of Denton in whose new library I rejoice. Lady Bird Johnson and Lyndon B. Johnson." Emily Fowler had written a letter to the president and included a thank-you because the library's new addition was built with federal funds. She received a photograph of the president and his wife in return.

Description: Photograph of the cable-suspension ceiling designed by Texas architect, O'Neil Ford, inside the Denton Civic Center. Lights are attached to an intricate structure of pipes and cables which support the ceiling. In the background, a curved walking path and railing are visible on an upper floor, above a window. This photo appeared in the Saturday, November 19, 1967, edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle, which advertised the "open house" of the Community Center that weekend.

Description: Exterior view of the front of the City of Denton Civic Center. The "community center" was designed by Texas architect, O'Neil Ford. The grand opening ceremony was held on November 18, 1867, and an open house was held that Saturday and Sunday. Interestingly, the Denton Record-Chronicle referred to the building as the "Denton Mini-Dome", although the structure was not a dome, but built like a bicycle wheel with a cable-suspension roof.
