[Elizabeth Simpson Cooper Memoir]

Description: Photocopy of Elizabeth Simpson Cooper's memoir about her childhood in Virginia and later her time in Kansas after moving westward with her family. In the text of her memoir, she describes her school days in Virginia, church, Cooper family history, "Bleeding Kansas" (the period of conflict over deciding if Kansas would be a free or a slave state), and the Civil War in Kansas as well as her personal encounters with Native Americans in Kansas.

[Draft of letter, April 19, 1891]

Description: This is a draft from the personal papers of the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Moore on April 19, 1891. In this letter, Moore writes about an article written in the Dallas Weekly News on April 16 by D. B. Kiefer. The article details a "norther" that struck Texas in April of 1857. He states in this document that he writes to corroborate stories with the journalist, provide his experience through the "norther," and make a correction on the date given in Kiefer's article. The third and fourth page of this document includes genealogical accounts of Moore's descendants. He details the Wallace family and the history of some of the Wallace men who were part of an expedition sent on a charge to the Creek nation.

[Account of Wallace Family History]

Description: This is a document from the Charles B. Moore Collection. In this document, Moore discusses the Wallace family education and military history. Moore states that most of the family went to school with slaves or with freed African Americans.Moving from the family's educational history, he notes the wars that the Wallace men fought in, details the campaign to North Georgia to fight the Indians, and recalls an incident which occurred travelling to Georgia on the Mississippi River. Israel Moore, John Wallace, and Raby Herrell fought in this campaign. The document is undated. It is damaged on the edges of the letter and some of the words are missing due to the damage.

[Letter from Henry S. Moore to Charles B. Moore, July 20, 1861]

Description: Letter from Henry S. Moore to Charles B. Moore discussing recent news of family and friends, Charles's property in Texas, and the military. Henry writes that he joined the Cavalry company from Collin County under Jim Throckmorton and discusses their preparations for war. There is an envelope addressed to Charles B. Moore in Rocky Bayou, Izard County, Arkansas. It is postmarked McKinney, Texas, July 27. According to the handwritten note in the top left corner, the letter was received on August 6, 1861. The envelope has been torn in several places.
