In the image a farm can be seen on the next hill and Powell has a shotgun, almost the size of his body, laying next to him and his hunting dog off in the distance On the bottom of the image, "Lazy Bones," is handwritten. Joe never had photographs of himself growing up in Tennessee. He returned many times to photograph Jimmy and create an "Autobiographical" series of what Joe recalled his life to be. May 11, 1941. 196u Location of Original Unknown 16x20 Photographic Color print. A copy of an oil painting of Wade Hampton Clark, Sr. Father of Joe Clark, HBSS.. Painting was made by former Predident Dwight Eisenhower. Ike was given a copy of Joe's book, Back Home, when he was recovering from a heart attack he made this oil painting from the photo called "Pappy Says" in the book. We received a 4x5 color transparency of the painting along with a note from Ike saying he hoped Joe didn't mind that he made a copy of the Pappy Says picture and asked if Joe knew who the gentleman was. That really is my Pappy, Joe replied and he is recovering from a heart attack too. Ike and my grandfather did correspond and they both passed away about four years later.
