[Workers Installing Roof]

Metallic Shingle.

Description: Patent for a new and improved metallic shingle. This design consists in "a roof made up of a series of metallic shingles bent and doubled at the ends . . . and the joint at the sides of the shingle, the doubled ends being bent at the sides to correspond with the joint at the sides of the shingle, whereby a double thickness is provided at the sides of the end joints and notching is obviated" (lines 11-18).

Shingling Bracket.

Description: Patent for a new and improved shingling-bracket. This design consists "[i]n a shingling-bracket, the combination of the frame having the beveled upper ends provided with the studs and the prongs at its lower ends, the frame having the prongs, the serrations or notches to receive the upper ends of the frame, the recesses in said notches for the studs, and the links connecting the frames . . . whereby the latter may be adjusted to any desired angle or folded together" (lines 78-87).

Description: Patent for a new and improved metallic shingle. This design calls for "[t]he ends of the shingles adjacent to the groove [to be] turned up to provide a guard which, when the joints are made between the shingles, prevents the water from obtaining access to the roof-boards, and directs it down the shingle to the bead, where the water is drained off" (lines 80-86).

[Webster School]

Description: Photograph of a building identified as a Port Arthur Independent School District administration office. Several men are working on top of the roof. A sign on the front of the building says "School Administration School Taxes." In the foreground, there are trees and a street. The number "1947" is handwritten at the top of the photograph. This building was built in 1900 with a $15,000 bond. It was formerly an elementary school, and since students found it hard to use the stairs, it became the administration building. A business card for Mac Roofing and Supplies, Inc is attached to the back of the photograph.
