[Art Forum Pressbook, 1948-1949]

Description: Pressbook documenting art events in Abilene, Texas, from 1948 to 1949 with emphasis on those of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Sixth District. The cover for this pressbook is the front of The Texas Clubwoman magazine. The local theme of study for the local Abilene Club was "Art Looks Ahead." Miss A. M. Carpenter was elected State Director for the American Artists Professional League and Director of the Art Division of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs. Included is a summary report of District 6 activities and also proposed exhibits for the Abilene Museum of Fine Arts.

Description: This scrapbook was collated for the American Art Week competition. On the front cover is a map of Texas with divisions for the Federated Women's Club districts. The motto of the Texas Art Division of the Federation is "Give Art a Chance." Each of the local Abilene universities - Hardin-Simmons University, McMurry University, and Abilene Christian University - had events to highlight American Art week.

Worley's Abilene (Taylor County, Texas) City Directory, 1948

Description: Directory for Abilene, Texas includes address listings for businesses and individuals, as well as advertisements from local businesses. According to the title page, the directory contains "an alphabetical directory of business concerns and private citizens, a directory of householders, occupants of office buildings and other business places, including a complete street and avenue guide and much information of a miscellaneous character; also a buyers' guide and a complete classified business directory." The general index begins on page 7 and the index to advertisers begins on page 8.
