Combination Door Check and Alarm.

Description: Patent for a new and improved door-check and alarm. With this design, "[t]he latch normally stands in the engaging position, and when it aligns with one of the notches it engages the same automatically. One of the notches is so arranged that it is engaged by the latch when the door is closed, and when the knob is turned to open the door the cord, wire, or chain draws the latch out of engagement with the notch. . . . [a] bell on the end of the latch will give warning when the latch is moved, and the door cannot be opened without moving the latch" (lines 63-92).

This design consists in "the combination, with a sliding-bolt provided with a wedge-plate, of the catch or slide mounted on the bolt and capable of a limited longitudinal movement, and the adjustable bar arranged between the adjacent edges of the wedge-plate and the catch or slide and tapered toward its lower end to fit the edges of the wedge-plate and catch or slide, the said adjustable bar being provided with a stud which operates in a suitable transverse guide-slot, whereby the bar is held from longitudinal movement" (lines 26-37).

This design "consists in a sliding spring-bolt held in the upper edge of the door, combined with a curved notched frame, projecting from the door-frame, into the notches of which frame the end of the bolt can pass to hold the door in the desired potion. The sliding bolt is connected . . . Description: Bill of sale from George L. Leigh to John A. Bonnell acknowledging the sale of land and 110 heads of cattle. The note goes on to say that this "transfer and Bill of Sale is made on the following terms and conditions to secure the payment of a promissory note for $782.66" from Bonnell, payable on May 1, 1887. The check included in the record is worth $716.66 from John A. Bonnell to Edward A. Leigh.
