[Handful of corn]

Description: Photograph of a handful of corn. Back of photograph: "This corn was put into storage after treatment with Super Shield. It averaged 24% moisture and when this picture was taken, had been in storage for six months. One of the things that impressed management of Big Tex when they visited several midwestern farms that had used Super Shield was the way the grain stayed in condition despite widely fluctuating outside temperatures. "We figured the concept was sound and was tailor-made for a cattle feeding operation that has to buy much of its grain requirements during a short period of time during harvest," says Troyce Carmichael, president of Big Tex."

Acetylene-Gas Apparatus.

Description: Patent for improvements in “gas-machines in which the gas is generated from calcium carbid; in which the gas will be thoroughly washed before passing to the distributing-pipe, thus affording a pure white light, and further to provide a means for running off coal-tar that may gather on the top of the water in the machine.” (Lines 9-18) Illustration is included.

Feed Trough.

Description: Patent for a new and improved feed trough. This design "is to provide a portable feed rack and trough adapted to hold a quantity of feed and to discharge the same as is found necessary" (lines 10-13). It consists in "a platform mounted on runners and provided at its sides with troughs, bins arranged at the ends of the platforms and provided at the lower ends of their sides with openings" (lines 99-102). It further consists in "slides arranged in . . . recesses and adapted to vary the size of said openings, strips arranged on the outer edges of the inclined bars, and set-screws connecting the strips" (lines 3-7).

Feed Apparatus for Locomotives.

Description: Patent for a new and improved feed apparatus for locomotives. This design is "for feeding the boiler of a locomotive-engine wherein a feed-pipe extends from a tank or tender to an injector a conical strainer is located in the three-way valve-casing for intercepting dirt, leaves, and foreign matter, to prevent the same passing with the feed-water to the boiler" (lines 9-15). It consists, "with a valve-casing containing a valve and having pipes or tubes for connecting, respectively, with a tank or tender and an injector or boiler, [and] of a strainer having steam-jet orifices arranged round its base" (lines 69-73).
