Scarf Protector.

Description: Patent for a new and improved scarf protector. This design "is to provide an improved device for protecting the upper exposed edge of a necktie or scarf from wear . . . in such a manner that said securing [device is] concealed from view. With these ends in view the first part of [the] invention consists in an extensible protector, U-shaped in cross-section, to fit closely over the upper edge of the scarf and consisting of two members or sections, which are connected at the rear thereof by a pin-and-slot connection to adapt them to be extended longitudinally with respect to each other" (lines 17-33).

Description: Patent for a mode of and means for baling fibrous materials, especially materials that can be made into a lap or web. The invention doesn't have the issues that other balers have and uses a core, supported by the base, to wind the material around. The bale it forms is square so it can be easily shipped and the risk of fire is decreased. Caps for the bale are secured before the bale leaves the compress.

Description: Patent for a new and improved locomotive ash pan. This design "relates to ash-pans for locomotive and other fire-boxes; and it has for its object to provide a simple and improved device of this character in which the contents of the pan may be discharged therefrom by a single operation of a controlling-lever. Description: Patent for improvements in lubricators by mounting a box, with a pair holes near its ends, on a bearing; with partitions across the box adjacent each holes, a pair of cord shape wicks and a depending flange, depressing the wicks to the bottom of the box. “When the box filled with liquid lubricant and the cover closed, the lower edge of the flange depresses the wicks, submerging them at the center of the box, and the wicks absorb oil at this point, the oil is lead thence by capillary attraction along the wicks down through the holes in the bottom of the box and into the groove, whence it is delivered by direct contact upon the upper side of the rotating shaft which it is desired to lubricate.” (Lines 52-63) Illustration is included.

Description: Patent for a new and improved padded hat. This design "is to provide a pad which can be quickly applied and when applied will remain in place, and by means of which a hat that is a trifle too large can readily be made to fit. . . . Heretofore persons wearing hats of odd sizes, or after having their hair cut short, have been compelled to place paper, felt, or some other material in between the sweat-band and the body of the hat in order to make the hat fit.
