Adjustable Device for Dressing Down Bearings

Description: Patent for a tool that dresses down bearings. Railroad engine journals and their corresponding bearings show wear over time. When replacing bearings into such a journal, without adaptation of the bearing there will be an improper fit, resulting in "hot journals" or "hot boxes". This tool adapts a bearing to a proper fit for the journal into which it will be installed.

Train-Marker and Signal-Lamp.

Description: Patent for a train-marker and engine signal-lamp meant to "provide a lamp in which the light may be differently colored and the change of color may be effected in an expeditious and convenient manner without the necessity of opening the lamp" (lines 10-14). It also provides "a guard or slide, whereby the opening through which the adjusting device passes may be closed, so as to prevent the wind from entering the body of the lamp and interfering with the flame" (lines 15-20). The lamp is meant for railroads and has two or more lenses, and is durably and inexpensively constructed. One color of light can be shown from the front and back and another from the sides.

Description: Patent for an graduating valve that is used with air brake systems in railroad trains. The invention is meant to "produce a comparatively simple valve which is constructed in such a way that it is not likely to clog or get out of order, which is arranged so that successive regular reductions may be easily made in the pressure of air in the train service pipe, which is adapted to automatically act on the governor of the air pipe from pressure either above or below the main valve, which is constructed in such a way that if the train parts the pressure in the main reservoir will not be reduced, which generates excess pressure when the brake handle is in running position and acts through said excess pressure on the governor of the pump, which is not likely to leak, and which in general may be easily controlled and places the train brakes under the complete control of the engineer" (lines 11-29).
