Description: An article, Testing and the Process of Change by Brent Wilson, published in Design for Arts in Education. The National Assessment is a project designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational system through an assessment of success. Students were tested on how they responded to art, if they valued art as a medium, how skillfully they produced art and how much history they know. By collecting the date it was possible to make claims about the status of art teaching.

[James Muro interview]

Description: Video recording of an interview with James J. Muro, Acting Vice President for Development at North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). The interview takes place in what appears to Muro's office on the UNT campus. Muro, a native of Pennsylvania, discusses his upbringing, his family and the demographics of his hometown, which had a large immigrant population of Slovaks, Poles, and Italians. Muro's father emigrated from Sicily, Italy at the age of 5 or 6. His mother, the daughter of immigrants, was of partial Italian heritage. Muro's father worked as a coal miner and instilled a strong work ethic in his son. Muro talks about discrimination related to his identity as an Italian Catholic that he experienced on the East Coast. He claims he not experience any discrimination when he moved to Texas. Before the interview begins, there are brief scenes of the UNT campus, including Fouts Field.

KERA Nightwatch episode featuring Bill Nelson on issue of AIDS quarantines

Description: 1986 KERA NIghtwatch episode on the issue of AIDS quarantine legislation. Featured speakers are Bill Nelson, President of the Dallas Gay Alliance, and Ohio State Representative Don Gilmore, sponsor of the Quarantine Provision proposal legislation being introduced to the Ohio legislature. Gilmore speaks in support of quarantining AIDS victims to their home or their car, and considers AIDS a "social disease." Bill Nelson speaks against the quarantine and in support of education and further scientific research. Footage is included of Robert Bernstein, Texas Health Commissioner, asking the Board of Health to withdraw the proposed AIDS rule from consideration.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, North Texas State University, to Edith O'Donnell, of the O'Donnell Foundation. In regards to Davis having completed the proposal for the Center for Study of Arts in Education at NTSU. Davis writes that the strong leadership of the arts education faculties at NTSU and the establishment of the Center will put them in a position to effect the quantity of the arts education programs they hope to implement. Davis ends the letter hoping that O'Donnell with review his proposal and get together to discuss any further ideas.
