KERA Nightwatch episode featuring Bill Nelson on issue of AIDS quarantines

Description: 1986 KERA NIghtwatch episode on the issue of AIDS quarantine legislation. Featured speakers are Bill Nelson, President of the Dallas Gay Alliance, and Ohio State Representative Don Gilmore, sponsor of the Quarantine Provision proposal legislation being introduced to the Ohio legislature. Gilmore speaks in support of quarantining AIDS victims to their home or their car, and considers AIDS a "social disease." Bill Nelson speaks against the quarantine and in support of education and further scientific research. Footage is included of Robert Bernstein, Texas Health Commissioner, asking the Board of Health to withdraw the proposed AIDS rule from consideration.

Development Plan

Description: A development plan document. The document goes into details about preparing programs to communicate effectively with philanthropic organizations, to build relationships with foundations and charities, help identify to the mass the general idea the program has to offer, building cases for support and providing the motivation behind the grant applications. These pages belonged to the desk of Jack Davis, William McCarter, as they researched foundations to support their education reform program.

Description: Newspaper clippings of an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, written by Diane Wolfe. The article discusses one of the stories behind the way Haslet, Texas received its name: "When he gave Santa Fe workers the good word, one turned to another and said, "Mahoney has let the railroad come through," thus naming the farming community." The second clipping tells of Roger Cloud's opinions of the growing development in Haslet: "Development is creeping up on Haslet." Finally, the third clipping goes into more detail about the city's expansion and the opinions against the growth: "You really don't worry about it (growth) but you know it will change."

[McConnell Memorial Tower of the Administration Building at dusk]

The Administration Building was constructed in 1956, and in 2002 was renamed the Hurley Administration Building in honor of retiring Chancellor and former President of UNT Dr. Alfred F. Hurley. The clock tower was named the McConnell Memorial Tower in honor of W. Joseph McConnell, President of North Texas State Teachers College from 1934 to 1951.
