Painting was made by former Predident Dwight Eisenhower. Ike was given a copy of Joe's book, Back Home, when he was recovering from a heart attack he made this oil painting from the photo called "Pappy Says" in the book. We received a 4x5 color transparency of the painting along with a note from Ike saying he hoped Joe didn't mind that he made a copy of the Pappy Says picture and asked if Joe knew who the gentleman was. That really is my Pappy, Joe replied and he is recovering from a heart attack too. Ike and my grandfather did correspond and they both passed away about four years later. I've tried to track down the original without success. Maybe you can do better? Clark PhotoFile: cn1492-1c
