[Communication between Antonio Larralde and Nicolás Gutierres]

Description: Communication between Antonio Larralde and Sr. Lic. Dn. Nicolás Gutierres concerning a marriage license for Joseph Antonio Lozano. Lozano says a wedding cannot be performed due to the absence of a priest; Larralde requests that says that Gutierres should perform the ceremony and record the license.

[Sample Jewish Marriage Certificate]

Description: Sample marriage certificate (called a Ketubah) presented to couples married at the Congregation Ahavath Sholom in Fort Worth, Texas as of 1990. The certificate includes three panels. On the far left, text primarily in English describes the vows of marriage. In the center, the main text of the certificate is in Hebrew with blanks for specific information; the text is surrounded by illustrations of plants and crops. On the far right there are lines for names and signatures of participants and witnesses. This form was designed by the Rabbinical Assembly (an organization of American Conservative rabbis).

[Freeman-Fram Marriage Certificate]

Description: Printed marriage certificate (called a "Ketubah" in Hebrew) for Nathan Freeman of Waco, Texas, and Etta Rebecca Fram of Dallas, Texas. The couple were married on January 19, 1913, by Rev. Abraham Fram, Etta's father and the cantor at Dallas' Sheareth Israel Congregation. The Hebrew quotation at the top of the document translates as: "The voice of joy; the voice of happiness; the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride." There is an illustration of a marriage ceremony at the top of the certificate in blue ink.

Marriage License of Carl Harton & Anna Krenek

Description: Marriage license provided to Carl Harton and Louise Krenek, presided by F. L. Kral, the county clerk of Wharton County. There is a black and white illustration at the very top of the document of a bell composed entirely of small flowers, with a leafy vine emerging from the back of the bell and encircling it in an arc. This bell is inside a circular motif with decorative geometric elements around the edge, and is flanked on both sides by bold, Old English text that declares the document as a Marriage License. When closed, the information provided in the opened document is condensed into the uppermost quarter of the document's back.

Andrew & Dagny Jensen Marriage License

Description: Marriage license provided to Anders Jessen Jensen and Dagny Andersen from the Wharton County courthouse. There is a black and white illustration at the very top of the document of a bell composed entirely of small flowers, with a leafy vine emerging from the back of the bell and encircling it in an arc. This bell is inside a circular motif with decorative geometric elements around the edge, and is flanked on both sides by bold, Old English text that declares the document as a Marriage License. Hand-written text has been placed in several areas: where it calls for the names of the couple, dates, signatures, etc. The actual ceremony was ordained by Pastor J. A. M. Rodholm. When closed, the information provided in the opened document is condensed into the upper half of the document's back.

[Anniversary Celebration for Abelone and Louise Harton at Danevang Community Hall]

Description: Black and white photograph of a group of people gathered for a portrait at a celebration in honor of Abelone Harton and Louise Harton, who are commemorating their wedding anniversary. The group is arranged in several rows behind a table where the eldest individuals are seated. The table has been set with plates and utensils and has a tiered cake at its center. A thick, velvet curtain monogrammed with a "D" is directly above the group of people. On the back of the photograph, a handwritten note reads, "Dear Abelone and all of yours: herewith our best wishes for a good Christmas and a happy new year for you all.
