[The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald]

Description: Photograph of a draw bridge and two photos of emergency workers moving bodies on gurneys. The reverse of the three mounted photographs is inscribed with the words, "Edmond[sic] Fitzgerald rescue workers." The Edmund Fitzgerald was a commercial hauling ship that sunk on November 10th, 1975 in Lake Superior in Canadian waters. The shipwreck is located 17 miles north-west of Whitefish Point.

Erath County Veterans Memorial

Description: Photograph of the Erath County Veterans Memorial. It is made of three stones. The largest, middle stone reads: "Erath County honors its veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and other military actions." The left stone says "Duty, Honor, Country," and the right says "Our men and women of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines." A line of text at the bottom of the memorial declares that it was "Donated by citizens, businesses, and organizations of Erath County."

Cherokee County Veterans Memorial

Description: Photograph of the Cherokee County Veterans Memorial, on the grounds of the Cherokee County Courthouse. There are three stones. The stone in the middle has the logos for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, as well as that of the United States. It says "Cherokee County Veterans Memorial, Dedicated May 31, 2004." The stone on the left reads: "In honor of all veterans: Men and women who answer the call to duty during war and peace, who serve our country with honor, often making the ultimate sacrifice to insure our nation's freedom. Veterans of the past, present, and future, we salute you. From the grateful citizens of Cherokee County. Erected by Rusk VFW Post 3406 and Ladies Auxiliary Post 3406. American Legion Post 293." The stone on the right reads: "Tribute. It is the soldier not the reporter who has given us freedom of press. It is the soldier not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the solder not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the solder not the lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial. Point Isabel Coast Guard Building on South Padre Island

Description: Southward facing photograph of the 1923 Point Isabel Coast Guard Building located on South Padre Island. A small historical marker on the opposite side reads: "The Federal Government has operated a coastal installation at Point Isabel since 1852. This structure is the third permanent building erected here, one of a line of nine stations established along the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to the Texas-Mexico border. Originally consisting of a main floor, attic, and lookout tower, all elevated off the ground on wood and concrete pilings, the structure served as barracks and headquarters for the U.S. Coast Guard unit that patrolled the coastline and conducted sea rescues.
