Description: Patent for a new and improved wheel-hub. This design "relates to that class of wheel-hubs which are made up of several parts in order that they may be cast in metal; and the object of the invention is to adapt the mortise-piece of the hub to be cast independently of the flanges, to form a positive clamp for the shoulders, and the protect the bearings from sand" (lines 8-15).

Description: Patent for a new and improved nut-lock. This design "is an improvement in that class of nut-locks in which so-called 'jam-nuts' are turned up on the bolt against the nut to be locked; and the present invention lies, mainly, in the particular construction of the end or ends of the thread of the locking nut or washer by which to more securely and effectually lock the nut in place on the bolt" (lines 8-15).

Description: Patent for a new and improved hame tug. This design consists in "the carrier . . . adapted for connection with the belly and back bands, constructed with a recess for the spring and provided with guides or ways for the tug-bar, such guides or ways leading forward and back from the spring-recess, whereby the tug-bar may extend entirely through and beyond the opposite ends of the spring-receiving recess, combined with the tug-bar and the spring" (lines 68-77).

Hanging Bed.

Description: Patent for improvements in hanging or hidden beds by having “hangers pivoted at their upper ends to fixed supports and having upwardly-opening angular hooks at their lower ends, of a bed-frame, legs pivoted to the ends of the end bars thereof, pitman-rods extending inwardly from said legs, a piece to whose ends said rods are connected, an outward projection between the ends of said piece detachably engaging and closely fitting one of said hooks, and a pivot passing through the projection and piece and into the end bar, as and for the purpose herein before set forth.” (Page 2, lines 26-36) Illustration is included.

Texas & Pacific Railway Depot plaque, Baird

Description: TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION TEXAS OFFICIAL HISTORICAL MEDALLION TEXAS & PACIFIC RAILWAY DEPOT IN 1881, THE FIRST STORY OF THIS BRICK DEPOT WAS BUILT AS A STATION FOR THE TEXAS & PACIFIC RAILWAY. TWO YEARS LATER, A SECOND FLOOR WS ADDED TO THE STRUCTURE, AND THE NEW RAILROAD TOWN OF BAIRD WAS CHOSEN CALLAHAN COUNTY SEAT. THE RENAISSANCE REVIVAL DEPOT, WHICH FEATURES DECORATIVE BRICKWORK, WAS USED BY THE RAILROAD UNTIL 1977. ITS PRESENCE IS A REMINDER OF THE TOWN'S IMPORTANCE AS A SHIPPING POINT FOR THE T&P RAILWAY FOR OVER 60 YEARS. RECORDED TEXAS HISTORIC LANDMARK - 1985
