[Letter from John K. Strecker, Jr. to Josephine Bahl, July 15, 1897]

Description: Letter written to Josephine Bahl from John K. Strecker, Jr. in Waco, Texas. Strecker, Jr. says that he had just received "a beautiful lot of foreign birds skins and also a snow-white weasel skin." He goes on to describe the dance party that had recently took place and was amazed that they only had one keg of beer available.

Description: Photograph of bird tracks going through the snow in the backyard at a residential home located at 310 Moore Street in Seguin, Texas. Accompanying information tells us the home belongs to professor Evelyn Fiedler Streng. In the top center of the photo the bottom of a tree trunk can be seen, and it's shadow leads off into the background. Small grass appears to be coming up from the ground underneath the snow.

BIRD-CAGE

Description: Patent for a new and improved combined Bird-Cages and Fly-Traps. The improvements include the use of netting or wire gauze, making holes at the bottom of the cage to insert feed-cups or let flies in when the cage is used to catch flies, and placing a ring over the seed-cups in order to prevent insects or flies from getting into the cage when it is used as a bird-cage.

[Corpus Christi, Texas: Tourists Onboard the USS Lexington Carrier]

Description: This film is unedited television footage regarding events and sites in Corpus Christi, Texas. The majority of the film is made up of shots of the interior rooms, controls, and exterior flight deck of the USS Lexington (CV-16) aircraft carrier, a World War II warship belonging to the United States Navy. John Bowen, the Operations Officer of Torpedo Squadron in 1943, explains military life onboard the Lexington. Jerry Chipman, the ship's Executive Director at the time of filming, discusses the ship's history. Families and other people in groups tour the ship's control rooms and berths freely, and tour guides explain the helm, ship's log, aircraft, and machinery. Another segment of the video shows groups of people with pet dogs. Throughout the video there are also intermittent shots of the beach, seagulls, swimmers, tourists, a ferry, and the Texas State Aquarium.
