Corner of Plaza Square in Paris, Texas

Description: Photograph of buildings around the southeast corner of Plaza Square in downtown Paris, Texas. Various storefronts are visible along the street, including the 1917 First State Bank Building on the left. Almost all of the buildings in historic downtown Paris are of the Classic Revival style, since they were rebuilt after the 1916 fire.

Paris Texas IOOF Building

Description: Photograph of the IOOF Lodge building on the southwest corner of Plaza Square in downtown Paris, Texas. The IOOF Lodge sign hangs on the front corner of the building and the entrance is on the side. It appears necessary repairs have been made to preserve the building. Downtown Paris was rebuilt after the March 21 - 22, 1916 fire. The architecture style is predominantly Classic Revival. Both buildings in this photograph reflect Classic Revival style. After decades of repairs, remodeling, and upgrades downtown Paris is still dominated by the Classic Revival style. The 1917 Lamar County Courthouse and the 1916 First National Bank are in Classic Revival Style. The original name of the building is unknown; the date medallion shows two dates, 1851 - 1916, The Wildey IOOF Lodge entrance on First Street SW has a date of 1921 above it. There is a IOOF sign on the upper front corner.

This building was constructed around 1916 and at the time of the photograph was occupied by The Paris Bakery. A car is parked on the far right, and a woman enters the bakery to the left of the car.

Paris Texas R.F. Scott Building

Description: Photograph of the 1916-1917 R.F. Scott building as built after the 1916 fire. The architect was J.L. Wees, who had built Mr. Scotts home in 1910. Mr. Wees was called from St. Louis to help rebuild Mr. Scotts' buildings after the fire. Mr. Scott owned this block. The building is in a Neo Gothic style appropriate for a business building.

Storefront in Downtown Paris, Texas

Description: Photograph of the 1916 W. O. Latimer building in downtown Paris, Texas. The decorative, bi-colored brick work is ornate, including small pieces of light-colored brick cut and fit into patterns. The upper building has a white stone string course and cap with decorations, and there are five brick pilasters framing four windows. The lower glass front is much newer. The building to the right is the 1916 V. W. Wall building. These buildings were part of the immediate rebuilding after the 1916 fire in Paris.

Description: Photograph of European Antiques sign and a street light on Clarksville Road. Passed the street sign the street changes to Grand Avenue and is the east side of Fountain Plaza. The buildings in the photograph exhibit the Classic Revival style of commercial brick building around 1916 to 1917 when downtown was rebuilt after the city fire.

Insurance Building in Downtown Paris, Texas

Description: Photograph of a blue building in the 200 block of South Main Street. On the north wall, there are large painted signs advertising "Sky Chief gasoline" and "Harold Hodges Insurance." The front door of the building is visible on the right side of the photograph with the same insurance company name written above the entrance. The building has been stuccoed,painted, and c.1950' front added. The color of the original red brick is visible behind the "Sky Chief" gasoline sign.

IOOF Building in Paris

Description: Photograph of the entrance to the Wildey Lodge No. 21 on the east side of the IOOF building located on 1st SW Street in downtown Paris, Texas. On the brick building "cap", there is a a white stone insert with a dual date: "1851 + 1916". Another white stone insert above one entrance says "Wildey Lodge No. 21, I.O.O.F." In early photos, this building was mostly standing but gutted by the 1916 fire and the date medallion reflects the building's continuity.
