[Longhorn Cattle in Corral]

Description: Photograph of longhorn cattle in a corral sponsored by the Texas Longhorn Breeder's Association of America, at the Texas Folklife Festival. Three longhorns are visible in the corral. The first, in the foreground, is black with white spots and has horns that curve backward. Behind him is a brown and gray longhorn, and a brown and white one in the very back. Merced Melendez

Description: Photograph of Merced Melendez standing in a corral with a horse in 1931. Merced was a long-time employee at the Brite Ranch. He was considered a de-horning expert - possibly the best in the West. This photo was included in a report by Andrew Wells for an American History class at Marfa High School on January 13, 1975.
