[Letter from J.W. Ward to K.K. Legett - December 22, 1899]

Description: Letter written to K.K. Legett in Abilene Texas from J.W. Ward, Division Superintendent at the Texas and Pacific Railway Company. The letter says: "In reference to your letters to Maj. Abrams relative to a crossing near Elmdale, have instructed Mr. Stamper, our Roadmaster, to meet you at Abilene Dec. 27th., and go over the situation with you."

Railroad-Crossing.

Description: Patent for a railroad crossing that "consists in certain devices organized in a manner to secure automatic alignment of a series of movable rail-sections with the main rails of a track on which a train is traveling in the direction of the crossing, the approach of the train setting in motion the devices by which the rail-sections are controlled, and thus dispensing with an attendant at the crossing to set the contrivance for the safe passage of the train through the crossing" (lines 12-22).

Railway Signal and Crossing-Gate.

Description: Patent for an improved railway signal meant to be used at crossings. It consists of a rotary signal post, operating mechanism, a lamp, an arm extension, the signal hanging from the arm, a bearing for the bottom of the rotary post, a box where the bearing sits, a sleeve that holds a cap plate for the box, a ladder from the post to the cap plate, and a brace.
