Description: Remembrance card for Joshua Calhoun Howell of Hill County, Texas. It reads: "In Loving Remembrance of J. C. Howell, Died Jan. 5, 1901. Gone but not forgotten. [Texas Historical Commission Marker: Thomas Middlebrook Willis (June 27, 1859 - November 27, 1937)]

Description: Photograph of the Texas Historical Commission marker for Thomas Middlebrook Willis (June 27, 1859 - November 27, 1937) in Abilene, Texas. Text: Born in Bainbridge, Georgia, Thomas Middlebrook Willis was an important early leader in Abilene. Willis moved to Waco, Texas with his parents, Dr. Thomas L. and Mrs. Letitia Willis, in 1866. T. M. Willis first came to this area in 1878 to investigate range possibilities. In 1883, after graduating from the law school of Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, he moved here and established a practice. In 1886, Willis married Abilene resident Sallie Parker (1865 - 1954); the couple had eight children. Also in 1886, he was elected city attorney. Willis later also served as city judge. In 1937, the Abilene Reporter-News honored him, among others, as one of the city's founders.

[Texas Historical Commission Marker: St. James Methodist Church]

Description: Photograph of Texas Historical Commission Marker for St. James Methodist Church in Waco, Texas. Text: One of Waco's oldest churches, St. James Methodist Church was organized in 1874 by Father Anderson Brack (d. 1905). From the first worship services, conducted in a house near the Brazos River that served as a school for the black community, the congregation built several sanctuaries before completing work on this building in 1924. Designed in a modified Gothic revival style, it features decorative brickwork, pointed arch windows, and octagonal towers. For over a century, the congregation of St. James has been active in missionary work, community service, and Christian education.

Willis, G. C. [Grand Chancellor]; H. W. Hawkins, Contractor; Adams & Adams, Architects.

[Photo Album of Earnest Ruben McElreath]

Description: Photo album compiled by Earnest Ruben McElreath. According to a handwritten note in the front of the album, it "presents pictures of friends, family, ex-sweeties, kinsman, pals, scenery, sports, football players, buddies, chums, and himself." Each page contains pictures as well as handwritten notes. Earnest Ruben McElreath was born Dec. 15, 1905 in Munday, Knox County, Texas and died Sept. 15, 1988 in Bexar County, Texas. He served as a major in the U. S. Army during World War II and is buried in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Some pictures were taken before Sept. 1, 1925.
