[Letter from José E. Chapa to John J. Herrera - 1954-02-06]

Description: Letter from José E. Chapa to John J. Herrera (in Spanish) expressing his sincere admiration of the "campaign for the dignity of the Mexican in Texas and the continuous battle for the fight against discrimination and segregation." Chapa goes on to explain to Herrera that Chapa no longer works for "the magazine" (it is not indicated what magazine) and informs Herrera that Chapa is now the correspondent for an industrial magazine that is very popular in Mexico. Chapa also informs Herrera that Chapa has a radio show and is the Manager of the new distribution company of Carta Blanca (a Mexican brand of beer) as well as the Director of the Committee for Mexican Patriots. Chapa gives Herrera details on a fundraiser for the fight against Polio, which was created by Chapa and "la Colonia". Chapa expresses that he is ecstatic to have raised $3,052.91 and applauds the efforts of "our people". Chapa tells Herrera about the rising unemployment numbers and expresses that "the immigration officials are trying to hold back the invasion of wetbacks, puerto ricans and the blacks from the south." Chapa expresses to Herrera that the following evening Chapa would speak at a banquet and speak about the unemployment problems affecting Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in Chicago. As a side comment and as part of his closing statement, Chapa expresses to Herrera that Chapa has not found anyone that peaks his interest, as he himself does not know what he is looking for (marriage prospects), and Chapa tells Herrera that if Herrera has anyone in mind to please send her Chapa's way.
