A. H. Andersen Home

Description: Photograph of a two-story structure in Danevang, Texas, belonging to Andrew H. Andersen. It has intersecting roofs; a gable one at one end and two gambrel-like ones at the other. Several windows are visible on the first and second floor, but much of the house is hidden by the nearby species of plants, bushes, and trees surrounding it. Hand-written text on the back of the photograph lists two names, that of Arthur Andersen and Frank Ott.

[Advertisement of a baseball tournament at Cleveland Diamond field]

Description: Poster advertisement of a baseball grand tournament to be played beginning August 25, 1940 at the Cleveland Diamond field, Houston, Texas. The tournament is offered by the "Aces Fours Recreational Club" called the Latin American Baseball tournament. The first team to play is Aztecas vs. Sugarland, starting at 10 a.m. ; the second team is Port Arthur vs. Southern Select playing at 1:45 p.m.; the third team is Galveston 'Blue Moon' vs. New Gulf Tigers, playing at 4:00 p.m. The entrance fee is 33 cents.

[Letters Concerning a Young Scholar's Admission to Harvard - August 1940]

Description: Letters to two recipients named "Aaron" and "David", dated August 12-13, 1940. The first letter, which is addressed to Aaron, inquires about a course in General Semantics at the University of Chicago in the summer. The sender urges Aaron that a young scholar named "David" be admitted into the course. The second letter, also addressed to Aaron, thanks him for his telegram and his news about David. The third letter, which is from "Eleanor", "Samona", "Ruth", and another unidentifiable member of the group, congratulates David on his admission to Harvard.

In the letter, which is dated October 19, 1940, Dr. Bodansky informs Dr. Hastings that he will be traveling to Boston in a few days and would like to meet with him.

Description: Letters between Dr. Meyer Bodansky and Dr. Vernon A. Wilkerson, who is the Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Howard University in Washington D.C. The two letters are dated November 7, 1940 and November 12, 1940. Teeter to Dr. Bodansky, informing him that the Eli Lilly and Company are sending him three 110 Gm. packages of Liver Extract for Dr. Bodansky's continued experimental studies. Letter from H. A. Burnett, Jr. to Dr. Bodansky, informing him of a recent package of Bacto-Beef, a desiccated fresh, lean beef product from Difco Laboratories, which was sent to him for continued experiments. Letter from H. A. Burnett, Jr. to Dr. Bodansky, informing him of a recent package of Bacto-Agar, a product of Difco Laboratories, and also telling him that they will give him some complimentary samples of Bacto-Thromboplastin. She wears a long dress and holds the hand of her husband (presumably), Christian Brodsgaard, who wears dark pants, a light-colored shirt, and a striped tie. The young girl in front of them, identified as Jane Andersen, wears a dark dress with a rounded, bib-like neckline and light-colored shoes. A barn, windmill, and wooden shed can be seen behind them. In a structure on the leftmost part of the image, the back end of an automobile can be made out. A continuous, decorative border surrounds the photograph.

[Group of Women in Front of Building]

Description: Postcard of a group of women outside of the Danevang Community Hall. A Red Cross flag has been hanged behind them partially covering a window and fully covering a door. Three more windows are seen on the same face of the building, and a fourth, of similar dimensions, can be seen on the left adjacent wall. Some of the women present are dressed in nursing uniforms, while others are more casually dressed in light-colored gowns. There are also a few children on the front row. Hand-written text on the back of the postcard indicates setting as community hall and donor Lillian Hansen. It has not been addressed to anybody.
