Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Darrell McFadden. McFadden joined the Merchant Marines in March of 1944. He was traveled to Normandy, France; Antwerp, Belgium; Hull, England and the West Indies. In their convoys they hauled bomb casings and other equipment and supplies. When traveling aboard various liberty and victory ships, he served in utility and as hot shell man on the four-inch gun. He was discharged in 1947.

He served as a gun pointer on a 40 millimeter aboard the USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73). They participated in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, Leyte Gulf and the Philippines.
