Description: Photograph of Pancho Villa. This is a rare photograph of Francisco Villa. General Villa is the man who is standing on top of the first railroad boxcar. The photograph is rare because Villa appears to be smiling. The men who are riding on top of these railroad boxcars are Villista revolutionists. Villa’s men and supporters became known as Villistas. Description: This work provides an account of what the author terms the “heroic defense” of Ciudad Juarez against Pancho Villa’s forces. It also includes correspondence by Villa to the military garrison urging their surrender. Notably, it describes American involvement (and brief incursion into Mexico) and the Mexican embassy’s response to it in El Paso, where the work was published.

[Jose Chavarria and the Soldiers]

Description: Paper written for a history class at Marfa High School in 1968 by Ernest Mediano. The paper describes a scene in a photo where some cavalry soldiers are asking his grandfather Jose Chavarria to sell them a horse in Ruidosa, Texas. The soldiers were charged with keeping Pancho Villa out of the United States.
