5th Street in Clifton, North Side

Description: View of the north side of Fifth Street in downtown Clifton, Texas. The building in the foreground is on the southeast corner of Avenue D and 5th Street and was destroyed by fire on December 23, 1905. The Clifton Record newspaper office can be seen on the left side of this building. The building in the background is on the southwest corner of Avenue D and 5th Street.

Can see front and side of what is now the Lumpkin Bldg, going out Morgan St. Meridian College is in far background; the old mill to the back and side of the old church on Morgan St (Hwy 22). Scattered homes throughout country side. A "Rock Shop - Horseshoeing and General Repairs" sign on building behind what is now Barlett's Pharmacy.

Description: Postcard of a street lined with trees in Clifton, Texas. A handwritten note on the back of the postcard is addressed to Lalla D. Stivers in Celina, Texas and says "Hello! Awful hot and dusty here. Am following the Bosque and Brazos Rivers and am finding plenty of gravel. Every mountain is gravel. May go fishing awhile tonight. Goodbye. Hamlett."
