Southwestern Historical Quarterly
As part of its ongoing archival program, King Ranch, Inc., has pub-
lished My Dear Henrietta: Hiram Chamberlain's Letters to His Daughter,
1846-1866 ($40.oo). Edited and annotated with an introduction and
commentary by King Ranch archivist Bruce S. Cheeseman, the docu-
mentary volume presents twenty-two of Chamberlain's letters and notes,
the originals of which are housed at the King Ranch archives in
Kingsville. The letters reveal the moral foundation, devout Presbyterian-
ism, missionary zeal, and love of family that Chamberlain instilled in his
young daughter Henrietta, who with her husband Richard King helped
build the fabled King Ranch. My Dear Henrietta was designed and printed
by W. Thomas Taylor of Austin and published in a limited edition of
four hundred copies. To order, contact Dena Wuensche, King Ranch
Visitor Center, P.O. Box 1o9o, Kingsville 78364-10o90 or call 512/592-

Cobblestone: The History Magazine for Young People, a handsomely illus-
trated monthly journal, has just released the September 1994 issue,
which focuses entirely on Sam Houston. It features a number of articles,
many images of Houston and his era, and provides readers with lists of
other books to read and historic sites to visit. Although aimed at a young
audience, it is quite well done and will be of value to anyone with an in-
terest in Sam Houston and the volatile years he spent in Texas. To or-
der, contact Cobblestone, 7 School Street, Peterborough, New Hampshire
