Parking lot stadium
gets summer facelift
McMurry College is not what It
used to be.
One look around the campus and
anyone who was here just a few
months ago can tell you that.
The College was a busy place
this summer with construction
crews and heavy equipment leav-
ing its mark on the grounds.
The most obvious new addition
to the campus was the rcpaving of
the main parking area on the west
side of the campus. New drainage
gutters were poured with cement
then the entire parking area
leveled and paved. The final
touch was the striping with yellow
paint.
Indian Stadium was also the
scene of much of the work. Work
crews spent most of the summer
installing a 5160000 new synthe-
tic surface track.
The project began in June with
the installation of new curbs and
drainage. An asphalt base for the
track was then applied and by
mid-July the surface was going
down.
A slight delay in shipping of
materials delayed the completion
a week or so with the striping
and lettering to complete the job.
Other improvements to the sta-
dium area included the installa-
tion of new runways for jumping
events a new shot put area and
landscaping around the Held
house area.
The new track also forced some
other changes to be made. The
inside lane cut off the corners of
the south end zone so the entire
layout of the football field had to
be moved six yards north. To do
that the old goal posts had to be
pulled out of the ground. (The
bases were set about six feet
undcrl)
New goal posts were ordered
