Gen. A. Jackson Murfreesboro, March 14, 1844
My dear Sir.
Anderson (son of Mr. Luke) J. Peacock, a gentleman and fellow
citizen of Bedford County visits you upon a project of much
interest to himself, his family and friends, and to us as citizens of
the State of Tennessee.
His brother is a prisoner in Mexico, taken with Col. Fisher's com-
pany in Texas. Mr. Peacock desires to avail himself of your acknowl-
edged influence with the head of the Mexican Government to pro-
cure the liberation of his relative. Relying upon your great and
disinterested benevolence when solicited in behalf of your country-
men I have taken the liberty of giving Mr. Peacock a letter of
introduction to you with the hope that you will find it in your power
to give liberty to the captive. Accept the most earnest and sincere
assurances on my part of the best wishes for the preservation of your
health and life and of your fame after death.
Most Respectfully your friend
Edwin A. Keeble
Nashville March 15th, 1844
My Dear Sir:
I beg leave to introduce to you my friend Mr. Peacock of Bedford
County in this state. Mr. Peacock desires very much to attain the dis-
charge of a younger brother who is now in confinement as a prisoner
of War in Mexico. Genl. Armstrong 8& myself have explained to him
the course which you have taken upon several applications made to
you to use your influence with Prest. Santa Anna for the release of
prisoners similarly situated with his brother. He is desirous however
to pay his personal respects to you and to converse with you on
the subject. Very Truly
Your friend
Genl. A. Jackson James K. Polk
