Nearly 400 Visit SAG
On Student Body Trip
. ■ Students arrived in. San -Angelo
at 11:30 a.m. after riding for four
hours on the train. A pep rally was
held at the station before the stu-
dents ate dinner.
Climax of the trip was a foot-
ball game between the Tarleton
'Plowboys and the San Angelo
Rams played in -the Ram's foot-
ball stadium. The . Tarleton Band
.and. the Wainwright Rifles per-
formed during the halftime as part
of the halftime activities. This was
the- first • public performance for
the,Wainwright; Rifles.
' Sa turday ."night, a dance was held
fit the SAC Recreation Hall for the
•TaiTeton students.'
Students' boarded the train at
10:30 for the long journey home.

Families Tonight
Tarleton's annual faculty dinner
will be'held in the Dining Hall to-
* night at' 7 p.m. Honored will be
Tarleton's.'faculty, their families,
and retired faculty members!
Mrs. Miltpn Staig will be the
master of ceremonies. The invoca-
tion by Mrs. Doyle Graves and
• greetings by President E. J.
Howell ■ will begin the . program.
Dinner-will be served at'-7:15.- The
presentation of new faculty mem-
berss by Mrs. Paul Cuhyus and the
-Benediction by Mrs. E. ;J. Howeli

Music by the "Tarleton Top
Hatters" and entertainment by
faculty members will provide en-
joyment for all. The "Tarleton 25-
year Club," honoring instructors
having completed twenty-five
years of service here at Tarleton
will provide further entertainment.
No new members will be initiated
into the club this year. Mrs. Mar-
jie Baxley, the newest member of
the club, was honored at last year's
faculty dinner. She was the forty-
eighth member of the club.
Tickets for the dinner will be $2
each. A crowd of around 200 are
expected to attend,
Sine Cera Sponsors
First Formal
Of the Season
"A Fantasy of Winter" will be
the theme of the first forma! dance
of the season sponsored by the
Sine Cera Social club Saturday,
Nov. 5. The ball will be held in
the Recreation hall from 7:30 until
11:30 p.m.
Proyidirig the music will be a
sextet form the band.
Tickets may be purchases from
Judith Martin, Dorianne McGre-
gor, Martha Cullom, ' and Jean
Smith, president of the club.
"Tickets must be bought before
the dance," reports Jean Smith.
"There will be no tickets sold at
the door. Also, there will be a
limit of 50 couples because of the
space in the roc hall. Buy your
tickets now!"

day morning that took them to
San Angelo for the annual student
body trip.
First TSC Play
Slated Dec. 6,
Says Miss Lillard
] Miss Lillie V. Lillard, head of
Tarleton's speech department, has
announced that the first play will
be given on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The
program' will consist of three
separate one-act plays ivith dra-
matic readings between each. The
nlays to be presented will be "The
Egg," "Suicide," and "The Noble
Lord." " :
Miss Lillard also reports that
all sections of the speech depart-
ment took part in observance of
United Nations Week. Exhibits and
group discussions were held dur-
ing each class period and on Tues-
day, Oct. 25, eleven students were
presented on Miss Lillard's radio
program, "Meet the Tarleton Stu-
dents." Chairman of this formal
program was Carroll Martin, soph-
omore speech major from Stephen-
ville, who introduced each speak-
er. Reverend Philip Lopes of Co-
manche gave an opening prayer
before the students discussed the
fifteen year history of the United
Nations, including its improvement
and accomplishments.
On Thursday, October 27, Miss
Lillard presented three students
from Nicaragua, Alberto .Choiseul,
Carlos. J. Balladeres, and Juan S.
Montealegre on her program.
Keeping in mind the United Na-
tions theme for the week, the three
spoke on home life and the geo-
graphy and history of their coun-
try.
Annual Photos
Can Be Made
At Local Studio
The Grassburr editor announced
this week that 650 pictures were
taken during the two sessions of
photographing on campus in the
last two weeks. Editor Dorothy
Shafer said that this is not enough
pictures to have as large a class
section as last year's yearbook.
Miss Shafer said that it is still
not too late to have class photos
taken. Student pictures will be
taken, at Miller Studios any time
before Nov. 10.
The photographs will be studio
portraits and retouched. For $2,50
the student will get his Grassburr
photo and six billfold size photo-
graphs.
Pictures taken on campus should
be ready for distribution in ap-
proximately two weeks.
Doremus to Speak
At Club Meeting
About Tools of Math
The Mathematics Club will hold
a regular meeting Thursday even-
ing at 0:30, November 3, in Room
310 of the Administration Build-
ing. .
■ Mr. H. C. Doremus director of
the Division of Engineering here
at TSC will be the speaker. He
will talk about surveying and ex-
plain and demonstrate the type of
instruments used in this work.
The Stephenville High School
Mathematics Club has been invited
to attend this meeting.
The program agenda also in-
cludes several items of club bus-
iness.
Any student may attend this
meeting regardless of whether he
is a member of the club.

Program Fills TSC
Little Auditorium
Tarleton's Little Auditorium In
the Music Conservatory was near-
ly filled Sunday afternoon, for the
second Friends of Music program
featuring Pianist Robert Floyd,
Mr. Floyd, chairman of the Div-
ision of Fine' Arts at the Univer-
sity of Corpus ChristI, is both a
teacher and a concert pianist. His
program included selections from
J. S. Bach, Beethovern, Prokofieff;
Schumann and Liszt, The program
was enthusiastically received by
the local audience and Mr. Floyd's
forceful and interpretive handling
of the selections was vigorously
applauded.
The pianist has concertized
throughout the U. S. and in 1952
was the winner of the National
Guild of Piano Teachers' Young
Artists' Competition.
The next Friends of Music pro-
gram is scheduled for Nov. 20.
Donald Wright, violinist, "will be
the guest performer.

The six young men departed
Stephenville in search of revenge
for the lawn burning incident
which took place on the TSC cam-
pus several days earlier, when the
letters "SAG" were burned in tKa
grass In front of the. Main Audi-
torium,
Armed with brushes and paint,
the sextette drove to San Angelo
intending to paint a "TSC" on one
of the buildings there. They felt
that this would counter-balance the
lawn burning.
They arrived on the San Angelo
campus late at night and while r
searching for a suitable building
to adprn with their artistry they
were spotted by several SAC'sters,
Their getaway attempt failed be-
cause of a sluggish motor and a
slow companion. Five of the group
had leaped iftto the eat* And started
pwny when they,:
their member's was not with
them. They went; back after him
and their car, stalled.
San Angelo students, armed with
clubs, escorted the TSC students
to the dorms.' Under the super-
vision of the dean of the San An*
gelo College they were shorn of
their curly locks.
Said one of, the Tarleton stu-
dents, "The Dean was very nice
about the whole thing and seemed7
to realize that the occasion was one
of good, clean, college rivalry.
Mrs. Lennie Smith
Leaves Tarleton State
Mrs. Linnie Cox Smith has re-
signed as Assistant Professor of
Commercial Arts at Tarleton State
College.
During her years at Tarleton,
Mrs. Smith' served temporarily as
Associate Professor of Economics,
Sociology, and Journalism. For
some time she served as Professor
and Acting Head of the Commer-
cial Department.
Before coming to Tarleton she
taught in the Edwards County Pub-
lic Schools, Mason' High School,
Manard County Schools, and the
Liberty and Hamilton Schools. '
Mrs. Smith received both her
B. B. A. and B. S. degrees from
Texas Women's" University. She
received her M. A. degree at the
University "of Texas.'
